Sticky Situation? How To Get Rid Of Cobwebs In Your Home!

Cobwebs make great Halloween decorations, but having them all year round just gives your home a grim look. To make things worse, spiders move quickly, so you may wake up to find new ones each day in a different corner.

Removing cobwebs from your home may seem like a hassle, but here are a few simple tips you can use to get rid of them.

Tip #1. Keep spiders outside

Spiders can make their way through small gaps in walls and other surfaces. Make sure to seal all cracks to prevent them from crawling in—don’t forget to check door frames, window corners, and jambs too! This will limit access to all unwanted guests in your home.

You can find a number of sealants in stores, but be sure to check which one works best for you before making a purchase.

Tip #2. Repel spiders naturally

There are a number of bug sprays readily available in stores, but if you prefer avoiding chemicals, you can make natural spider repellents with water and some essential oils.

Scents such as peppermint, lemon, and tea tree are the most effective in keeping spiders and insects away. You can spray all problem areas with a mix of water and the essential oil of your choice or rub them with a cotton ball smeared in essential oil. You’ll notice a decrease in cobwebs, and it will leave your house smelling fresh.

Tip #3. Use a vacuum cleaner

Your best ally for quick cobweb removal is your vacuum. Cobwebs are very sticky, and if you don’t want to get your hands dirty, the vacuum’s suction power is the way to go. This method will effortlessly get rid of both cobwebs and spider eggs.

Hose extensions are a lifesaver if your vacuum is not equipped with one long enough. You can simply add this step to your usual cleaning routine and tackle the task regularly.

Tip #4. Get creative

What about small spaces? While vacuums do a fantastic job removing cobwebs, small gaps, such as air vents, may not be as easy to clean.

A paintbrush or even used toothbrushes come in handy for these scenarios. The cobwebs will tangle around the brush fibers, and you’ll be able to remove them instantly.

Additionally, for difficult surfaces, such as bumpy ones, you can use a disposable lint roller to have the cobweb stick to it.

Tip #5. Keep vegetation under control

Removing the cobwebs from your home’s exterior is a great way to prevent spiders from crawling inside. You also want to keep plants and vegetation as far as possible from windows, as it may seem like an invitation for insects to come in.

Taking care of your home’s outer appearance will reduce the chance of cobwebs on the inside and a good excuse to have some fun and redecorate.
